         OUR DISTRESS FUND
AMCFA  has funds available to assist  Australian Mist which through happenstance become without  a  home.  Over the years we have had owners who were going overseas, moving into accommodation where pets were not allowed, who died, or whose  family couldn't keep them ....
On occasion also a breeder has run into problems, and has been assisted with a loan from the fund to  work  their way out of their problem .
While breeders often manage these matters for themselves, specially where the cats were ones  which they bred, and have kept in touch with, much older cats ( in Victoria, at least)  tend to come to the Nintu Cattery, to join Truda's oldies for the rest of their lives (kindest when they are really old), or to 'hang around' until  a likely prospect comes along .... Should these cats incur any veterinary expenses during their sojourn,  Truda occasionally asks for recompense from the fund, though general    maintenance and food come out of her general cattery budget.  Any donation made by the person rehoming such a cat may be retained  to cover this upkeep, or donated all, or in part to the Distress  Fund.
The Fund has also grown through  our Members, one of whom,  Mary Neal,  always includes a generous donation with her Membership Renewal,  small amounts arrive from time to time from other members, and occasionally are given direct by kitten buyers ..... as of the end of the 2019-20 Financial  year, the AMCFA balance sheet recorded a balance of $2077.00 in the Distress Fund.

          REHOMING YOUR AUSTRALIAN MIST
While it is evident from the above that there is generally a 'fall back' position for an owner or family member who cannot keep their Australian Mist any longer, there are steps which anyone can take for themselves.
          1.  If you know the breeder contact for advice.  Sometimes the reasons that make one think that rehoming is the only solution can be overcome by a bit of 'retraining' (yep, both parties!! the cat and the owner ....)
          2.  A much loved pet can't stay because you are moving overseas - you will be happiest if you actually interview prospective owners ... so make a nice little ad for the LOCAL paper - not just a couple of lines, but something with some heart in it ... then follow up with friendly and reluctant-to-part-with interviews ....
          3.  Family??? Oh they don't like cats ... etc etc - well, did you actually ask them if they could take on your Mist for good/the duration of your absence?.... BUT don't EVER assume that the family will automatically care for your pet/s because you want to flit off somewhere else ... ( t'ain't fair to the cat or the family).  [And by-the-way, don't ever make the assumption that should something 'final' happen to you, that your family will automatically care for your pets  -  MAKE PROPER WRITTEN AGREED PROVISION FOR THEM  - but this is really another whole subject ...]
         4. In the case of urgent rehoming you can of course take your Mist  to a Welfare agency - but do remember that this is a one-way-ticket 80% of the time, particularly with an older cat .... the effort to make is to contact the breeder and mobilise yourself to get the cat to them .....
          5. For an Australian Mist (or any other pedigreed, registered cat) you can also contact pedigree cat registering bodies, who often run distress funds. Dr Straede's organisation is ANCATS and it will pass on information to breeders.

While we don't have members even in every State in Australia, there should be someone mentioned within this website that you can at least email or ring - those most currently involved are Committee Members.  Probably the bright side of this is that because Australian Mist Breeders generally sell all but very few kittens already desexed, we do have a good  chance of  keeping track of our breed, and  placing adults from cases of  genuine need.

KITTEN PRICES
As Nintu Cattery is not registered, nor regarded as a business for purposes of the GST ( I have 'no reasonable expectation of making a profit ' an unfortunate fact that my records  most amply back up!), I am paying GST on all goods and services input into my hobby, AND compliance with the new Code of Practice for Breeding Cats requires considerable additional financial outlay, I  need to raise my kitten prices.  Pet kittens ,   2 x vac (Fevac-3) , desexed, registered, microchipped and a book $1500. Female kittens for breeding now  $2000, (which also includes  transfer to buyer's name). Male kittens for stud by negotiation; conditions apply.

VASECTOMISED STUDS

Aussie Mists make lovely lads to keep the ladies happy when you are too busy to rear another litter of kittens, and can't stand the screaming a minute longer!

Vasectomised males to 'take home for keeps' are available from time to time. It is best to book one some months before you anticipate that you will be needing one, so that a suitable stud can be selected, have his little op, and be ready ( and infertile!) when you want him. Please call or email me for more details.

RETIRED BREEDING CATS

Delightful retired breeding cats, which deserve a home where they can be the centre of attention are available from time to time. It is always worth contacting me if you think an older cat would suit your lifestyle, and I will try to match your requirements. I have cats suitable for house pets, and for  the night/day inside/outside lifestyle. It is possible I even have an old lad or two who might grace your stables, or barn - provided it is safe and warm - but don't forget they are all very fond of their food!

Please visit My kitten listing for details of currently available cats/kittens.
